The length of the belcher chain (including the split rings) is approximately 46 cm. The necklace does close with a hammered s-hook (see image)
 
Interesting to know is that this stone with a hardness on the Mohs-scale of 5 / 6.5 can absorb water and that this does change the way it looks. Being low on the Mohs-scale also makes Opal a very delicate stone which should be handled and stored with care.
 
Properties:
As a stone of protection, Opal is a marvelous shield to keep from absorbing other people’s negative thoughts and energies. Just as it uses interference and diffraction to produce its colors, it can also run interference around challenging people or situations that affect your mood or hurt your feelings. Opal can also provide a “cloak of invisibility” in circumstances where one does not wish to be noticed or needs to fade into the background.
